The Ministry of Culture, Museum and National Heritage (MCM&NH) was established in accordance to Article 1.10 of the Revitalize Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in the Republic of South Sudan.

Its primary role was to take charge of the development and promotion of culture, and the heritage in the Republic of South Sudan. This means that the Ministry is central to the task of promoting a national identity that respects the cultural diversity of South Sudanese.
